Jarrett Clem
Hi everyone, my name is Jarrett Clem and I am running to be your state representative. I have lived in the 104th district my whole life, and I am a third-generation Champaign and Vermilion County farmer. I graduated from Parkland College and Eastern Illinois University and am a Journeyman Electrician. I am proud to advocate for labor in our community as the business manager at IBEW Local 601. I am also on the board of trustees at Parkland College, where my commitment is to increase educational opportunities and economic development in our community.
Jobs and the economy:
I will expand vocational training programs to help young people learn trades and get good-paying jobs, back new research centers and labs supporting high-tech job creation, and support the Rebuild Illinois program, which invests $45 billion in critical infrastructure, creating and supporting 540,000 jobs.
Labor uNIONS:
I know firsthand the importance of standing up for working families and I will be a passionate advocate for workers in Springfield. I represent labor now and will continue to fight for pensions, worker protections, and the ability to organize.
Education:
I believe children in our community deserve a world-class education. I will fight to reduce childcare costs, strengthen funding for early childhood education and local public schools, work to improve teacher pay and lower class sizes.
Women's rights:
I trust women to make their own healthcare decisions. I will protect the right to choose in Illinois, and strengthen access to birth control, fertility treatment, and maternity care. I will stand up for working women and fight for equal pay and paid family leave.
Healthcare:
I will stand up to big insurance and drug companies and fight to lower costs. I will fight to stop insurance companies from artificially raising their rates to boost profits, and will crack down on price-gouging on essential medicines. I strongly support capping the cost of Insulin at $35 a month.
Cost of living:
I support eliminating the grocery tax, will fight for property tax relief, and will work to ban hidden junk fees that companies pile onto goods and services.
Property Taxes:
High property taxes are hurting families throughout our community. I will fight to reign them in by strengthening state funding for public schools and essential services to take the burden off of local taxpayers.
Agriculture:
I am committed to sustainability in agriculture and dedicated to increasing training and information. As new technology transforms the agriculture industry, we must invest in the farmers who use it.
